Spike Katz
Spike Katz is our founder, chief engineer, and producer.
At an early age, Spike knew he needed to create music. After over 35 years as a performer and commercial recording artist, he still feels the same way.
Much of his musical philosophy is inspired by growing up in the punk culture of the late 70’s and early 80’s. He believes that independent thought, defying convention, and turning adversity into advantage are ideas that elevate the artform.
A classically trained pianist, Spike also enjoys playing a wide variety of other instruments. On stage, he is perhaps most recognized with his upright bass and for his energetic “rockabilly slap” playing style. He is also a graduate of the Berklee School of Music, with a certificate in music production and technology.
His career has taken him on tour and into the studio with numerous nationally recognized bands, including The Kings of Nuthin’, The Royal Crowns, The Racketeers, The Hillbilly Hellcats, The Shaun Young Trio, and Far From Finished, to name a few. His music has also been featured in commercials for Chase Bank, Tropicana, McDonalds, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, and Sega Video Games.
Spike founded Mobile Mic Studios so that others might benefit from his knowledge, insight, and experience on their own creative journey. He finds it extremely rewarding to provide artists with the polished, professional sound that helps them realize their aspirations.
